Theological Virtues

The three theological virtues, Faith, Hope and Charity, allow man to share divine nature, because they relate directly to God and allow Him to infuse the virtues directly into the soul to make us God’s children and to merit eternal life. The virtues dispose Christians to live in relationship with the Holy Trinity, Who is the virtues’ origin, motive and object.

The virtues and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are chief supernatural powers bestowed on our souls with sanctifying Grace. The Comforter imparts the theological virtues on the sacrament of Baptism to love, service and glory of God, and to attain our salvation.

The theological virtues incline us to God but we must refine them, because otherwise they remain dormant. The virtues are supernatural habits enhanced by repeated good acts, such as prayer, reception of the sacraments and acts of mercy.
