Communion of Saints

Jesus said to Sister Faustina:

“You are not living for yourself but for souls, and other souls will profit from your Suffering. Your prolonged Suffering will give them the light and strength to accept My will.”  (Diary 67)

The proposition assumes the Communion of Saints and helps to explain why bad things happen to good people. “Your suffering is your treasure,“ told me the Holy Spirit according to the article Interaction with the Holy Spirit.

There are three states of the Church: some disciples are on earth, Militant Church, others have died and are being purified in Purgatory, Suffering Church, and others are in full glory in Heaven, Triumphant Church. The communion of saints is the spiritual solidarity which binds together the faithful on earth, the souls in purgatory and the saints in heaven in the organic unity of the Mystical Body of Christ.

The Church has always had great respect for the dead, and we help them and make their intercession for us effective through our prayers.

“He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection in mind … Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be absolved from their sin.”  (2 Macc 12:43,46)

I used to pray for the souls of Purgatory in most need, but the Counselor has recently instructed me to pray for the souls near complete purification, because Christ’s Second Coming is nigh. Those who are alive at the Lord’s Coming, Militant Church, will be perfected and purified at that time. The souls in Purgatory, Suffering Church, will receive resurrected bodies and completely purified souls, so purgatory will end with the Resurrection of the body.

The actual doctrine of purgatory explains:

1. There is purification after death for those who have not been fully sanctified in this life.
2. This purification involves pain.
3. The living can pray for the souls being purified and those souls can pray for the living.
4. Souls being purified are destined for heaven.

The Militant Church should strive for purification of its sins and pray for the purification of the Suffering Church, and the merits of the saints in Heaven are offered through Christ, the Mediator, and their concern helps our weaknesses. “Do not weep, for I shall be more useful to you after my death,” said St. Dominic.

Brethren, if you suffered much in life, rejoice, because you may go straight to Heaven; otherwise, if you had a relatively easy life, I encourage you to practice Works of Mercy for spiritual credit. Refer to the article Be Merciful.
